Overview
Sometimes called the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, this is one of the most famous treks in Nepal. Where on this short Poon Hill Trek you can witness everything the Annapurna region has on offer (well, nearly!). Suitable for young children, and older people, or those with simply less time, this is a five-day trek that is quite low in altitude. Although a relatively easy trek, for the Himalayas that is, it is still tough going up and down the hundreds of stone steps to/from Ulleri village. But it is all worth it – even the getting out of bed in the cold before sunrise – when you witness the sun rising over the snow-topped mountains of the Himalayas! Often this trek also called mini circuit as it follows a circuit route allowing hikers every day is a brand new day with jaw-dropping Himalayan scenery.
The trek to Poonhill starts from Nayapol village. It is perfect for those who have less time to spend in Nepal. Itinerary
Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara via Tourist Bus let us explore countryside of Nepal, as all the way to Pokhara we will pass by local market and Trishuli Riverside. It’s a major highway connecting east to west of Nepal. There exist and option of Kathmandu to Pokhara by Flight, which you can customize, let us know we will arrange accordingly. Once you reach Pokhara you will have free afternoon walk around Fewa Lakeside where numerous restaurant and café are available you can have dinner on one of them.
Depending on group size either car or jeep or coaster will be arranged for short drive to Naya Pool which is around 55 km from Pokhara, start point of Poon Hill Trek. After necessary permit arrange we will trek all the way up to Hile from where we will hike up further ahead which will take us to Ulleri. Ulleri is a small area mostly occupied by tea houses and lodges, it does not make any difference in choosing a room causes no more mountain view from Ulleri.
Steep uphill from Ulleri might be very difficult although trails are all paved with ladder before reaching gentle flat trail. Trails seem bit busy as you are walking on one of the most busiest and popular trekking trail in Nepal. Poon Hill Trek can be trek throughout entire year regardless of weather like no such big effect of winter although Poon Hill will be covered by snow. Once we reach Ghorepani we will hike up a little to reach Upper Ghorepani, which is more scenic in compare to Lower Ghorepani.
Early morning we will start tracing trail to top of Poon Hill for one of the beautiful sunrise over Dhaulagiri Himalayan Range along with other several subsidiary peaks. It is all the way gentle and kind of steep up hill trail but view will get more and more beautiful. View tower on top of Poon Hill offer exceptional viewpoint, which one cannot image with such short walk from city like Pokhara. Although view from Ghorepani and Poon Hill looks same as almost ranges are similar but view point matter as one can have slightly change view with short walk to Poon Hill. After sunrise we will descend down to Ghorepani and head to Tadapani, which is mostly down hill and gentle flat trail.
Poon Hill Trek was not easy compare to today as it is mostly downhill and very short trek all the way passing through middle of forest. Combination of gentle sunlight and beautiful rhododendron forest cannot be described on word. Ghandruk will be a lunch camp as well overnight camp cause distance is very short, this short distance will let you explore the entire village of Ghandruk which is mostly inhabited by Gurung people whose forefather had involved in British Army during world war. Late afternoon we will explore Gurung Museum and one can get dressed in traditional Gurung dress.
Although we had mentioned trek from Ghandruk to Naya Pool before driving back to Pokhara we will not follow this itinerary cause after around one and half hour of trek we will merge with motor road so depending on condition up to where we can send motor from Pokhara we will just trek up to that part only and drive back to Pokhara. It will let us explore some beautiful part of Pokhara we will organize two or three sightseeing place depending on time span.
Driving back the entire way through same highway with memory of Poon Hill Trek on mind we will reach Kathmandu and get shifted on Hotel. Post discussion meeting will be held late afternoon regarding the feedback; performance of NEST and any kind of suggestion will highly be appreciated.
