Trip Overview

The Langtang Gosainkunda Trek takes us through the Langtang National Park, where dense forests and the promise of wildlife await behind every tree. We ascend to Tserko Ri (4,984m) for a sunset over the majestic Himalayas and then proceed to the religiously significant, high-altitude lake of Gosaikunda (4,380m). Covering over 4 square miles, the Gosaikunda Lake complex is a Ramsar site (a wetland of global significance) as well as being a holy place for Hindus. Considered a moderate-grade trek, we recommend a good level of fitness, as well as a sense of adventure and awe.

Langtang gosainkunda

The story goes that the Hindu deities Shiva and Gauri reside near Gosaikunda Lake. The lake is mentioned in both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. During the Janai Purnima festival, thousands of pilgrims from India and Nepal gather here to worship, particularly during the August full moon. If your Langtang Gosaikunda Trekking coincides with the festival, you are in for something truly unique and special! But even out of this time, this moderate trek is perfect for people who have a passion for mythology and culture, as well as a desire to trek in the Himalayas. And not just Hindu culture, for this trek takes you to the Buddhist monastery of Kyanjin in Langtang Valley, through yak pastures, and into interesting villages. And let’s not forget the mountain vistas - Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Langtang Ri (7,205m), and Langtang Lirung (7,234m) towering above you, particularly as you make your way up to Tserko Ri (4,984m) from where there is a 360 ° panorama.
