This Class 4 river takes us to the far west of Nepal for a long, 10 day, non-adventure through varied landscapes, full-on white water experiences, and with the option of visiting Bardia National Park at the end of the trip. Rapids are Grade IV and the river is long and technical, with strong currents and many rapids. So you will be accompanied by safety kayakers and our raft guides are extremely experienced and professional. Your safety and enjoyment are uppermost in our mind.
Day 01: Today either take a long (very long) bus ride to the west of the country or a 1.5-hour flight to Nepalganj. Then a shorter bus ride to Surkhet, leaving the flatlands around Nepalganj for the hills.
Day 02: Today another short bus or truck ride followed by a short, maybe 2 hours, hike to the put-in point. This is a chance to stretch your legs after the bus rides and enjoy walking through villages typical to this area. We camp on the river, enjoying the campfire under the stars.
Day 03: Finally, we are on the river! After a briefing by your guide, start paddling from Sauli and meet your first Grade IV rapid!
Day 04: Continue to build your rafting skills today – you are going to need them! Like every night, we camp on the beach and enjoy some music, and maybe a little dancing – if you have the energy!
Day 05: Today paddle through gorges and jungle-like vegetation but the main attraction today is a rapid called “God’s House Rapid”! For those quieter moments, you can perhaps see some colorful birds by the side of the river.
Day 06: Today is probably the most exciting in terms of rapids. Rapid after rapid! White water after white water. Until we arrive, happy, excited, and tired at our campsite.
Day 07: Today enjoy swimming in the river, relaxing in the sand, bird watching, or just chilling as today is a rest day.
Day 08 and 09: From here on the river becomes calmer, rapids are less intense. The scenery is stunning, and we pass local villages and lush countryside.
Day 10: After a short paddle we reach our take-out point at Chisopani, from where the river enters Bardia National Park. From here you have the choice of extending your stay and exploring Bardia or returning to Kathmandu or some other destination. Just let us know in advance.
