Overview

Situated close to the Annapurna Circuit Trail, there are two summits to Chulu Peak Climbing – being Chulu East and Chulu West.  Permits are required for both separately. We are offering Chulu West, which is not overly difficult for the experienced climber, and takes 5 or 6 days, and to an altitude of 6,419m.

The trail to the Chulu Peak Climbing starts from Ledar, part of the Annapurna Circuit Trek, and takes us to Chulu West Base Camp, onto Camp I where we acclimatize before pushing on to Camp II before a very early morning start to summit Chulu Peak West.  The mountains we can see on this climb are Chulu West, Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna I.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Jagat [1100 m/3608 ft]: 8 - 10 hrs
Day 2: Trek from Jagat to Dharapani [1,960m/6,430ft]: 7 - 8 hrs
Day 3: Dharapani-Chame [2,710 m/8,891 ft]: 6 - 7 hrs
Day 4: Chame- Pisang [3,300 m/10824 ft]: 5 - 6 hrs
Day 5: Acclimatization day in Manang
Day 6: Trek from Manang to Ledar
Day 7: Trek from Ledar to Chulu West Basecamp (4,900m)
Day 8: Hike from Basecamp to Chulu West High Camp (5,600m)
Day 9: Climb from High Camp to Summit (6,419m) and descend to the Basecamp
Day 10: Trek from Chulu West Basecamp to Manang (3,540m)
Day 11: Trek from Manang to Chame (2,670m)
Day 12: Trek from Chame to Besishar
Day 13: Drive from BesiShar to Kathmandu

Itinerary

Day 1
Drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani

Early in the morning we will drive for 6 hours to Besishar, have our lunch and take Jeep for 3 hours to Dharapani. After we will drive via Jeep, passing many villages like Jagat, Chamcha, Tal, and so forth. We will also cross a lot of suspension bridges and view waterfalls. On the way, there is Marsyandi Hydropower, green hills. We will reach Dharapani and stay overnight.

Day 2
Trek from Dharapani to Chame (2,670)

Trek to Chame from Dharapani takes 6-7 hours on walking. There is the roadway too, but we will hike as to feel the refreshing nature. 40% of our hike is on-road. We will pass through the forest, crossing the suspension bridges. Similarly, Villages like ChariKharka, Timang, and Koto is on the way.

Day 3
Chame- Pisang [3,300 m/10824 ft]: 5 - 6 hrs

It takes 6 to 7 hours to reach Pisang from Chame. Crossing villages like Bhartang, Dhikur Pokhari, etc. we will reach Pisang. Dhikur Pokhari is a big village where people are engaged in apple farming. Walking through the way which is mostly uphill and slightly flat, we will pass through forest and cross suspension bridges. The people here have Tibetan culture with a distinct tradition and dress. The monasteries and prayer flags throughtout are astonishing.

Day 4
Trek from Pisang to Manang (11,548 feet / 3,520 m)

Today, we will head towards Manang from Pisang. Starting our walk to reach Ghyaru for 3 hours, we will be facing a 1-hour flat trail and the remaining uphill. If the weather is clear, we can see the view of Pisang, Annapurna ranges closely. Likewise, we will move towards Nyawal from Ghyaru walking for about 2 hours. After reaching Nyawal, you will see many monasteries, prayer flag, and the distinct Tibetan People. You may feel like you are in a different world. On the way, we will pass through the small bushy area, enjoying the view of many peaks. Similarly, we will head towards Manang, walking for about 3 hours. Manang is a big village od the Annapurna area. Every kind of facilities like massage, shop, wifi, electricity is found there. Passing the villages Barkha and Humdin Airport we will reach our destination. Stay overnight.

Day 5
Acclimatization day in Manang

Acclimatization implies the day when we remain at where we arrived last time and make some side outings of that place. Today, we will hike for about 1 hour up to Gangapurna Lake (3,800m). From there the view of Annapurna ranges, Chu La ranges can be seen. After that, we will descend crossing the suspension bridge and straight forward and get back to Manang.

Day 6
Trek from Manang to Ledar

Through the landscape, vegetation, and forests today we will walk up from Manang passing via Yak Kharka to reach ledar. Our day today will be mostly spent on the alpine pasture of local people.

Day 7
Trek from Ledar to Chulu West Basecamp (4,900m)

Today early in the morning, we will head towards Chulu West Base Camp from Ledar. The trail is a bit up hills and steep so you need to take care of yourself and prevent your self from altitude sickness as the elevation increases.

Day 8
Hike from Basecamp to Chulu West High Camp (5,600m)

Today we will hike to Chulu west high camp from base camp. It is the difficult day and the elevation also increases. We have to walk uphills which may be a challenging trek.

Day 9
Climb from High Camp to Summit (6,419m) and descend to the Basecamp

Early in the morning, we will head to the summit from high camp all the way uphill. It is the most difficult day of the entire trek as we have to walk uphills and the altitude goes on increasing. From the summit, we will descend back to Base Camp.

Day 10
Trek from Chulu West Basecamp to Manang (3,540m)

Today we will get back to Manang from Base Camp following the trail that we came before.

Day 11
Trek from Manang to Chame (2,670m)

Early in the morning we will eat our breakfast and get back to Chame from Manang following the that we came before.

Day 12
Trek from Chame to Besi Shashar

Today from Chame we will return Back to Besisahar as before.

Day 13
Drive from Besishar to Kathmandu

From Besisahar we will say goodbye to everyone and drive back to Kathmandu.
