Means the town of god Shiva, Shivapuri National Park was established in 2002 and listed as one of the ten National Parks in Nepal. About 15km from the central city, this national park is the nearest to Kathmandu Valley. Shivapuri National Park is considered a mid-hill on the northern part of the Kathmandu city. It covers an area of 159 sq. Km. in the district of Kathmandu, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Sindhupalchok Chisapani. Its highest peak lies at 2,732m

The national park lies in a transition zone between subtropical and medium temperature climate. The annual precipitation of about 1,400mm (55 in) falls mostly from May to September, with 80% during monsoon. Temperatures vary from 2–17 °C (36–63 °F) during the winter season, rising to 19–30 °C (66–86 °F) during the summer season.

These are the popular biking routes around the area. It is also trendy for downhill mountain biking from Chisapani, Mulkharka, to Kathmandu.
