Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card Necessary for Trekking in Nepal
In order to maintain the proper record of trekkers, TIMS card has been mandatory to trek in Nepal. However there are some circumstances in which there is no need to TIMS card, which will be listed below. Generally there are two types of TIMS card for same purpose but difference on basis of whether organized or FIT trekking. You are requested to provide some details like contact, area of trek start and end date of trek, itinerary that will store in visitor’s database and can be reviewed for park management purpose or in case of emergency.
How to obtain a TIMS card
FIT (Free Individual Trekkers):
Green colored TIMS card will be provided for FIT trekker after fulfilling the paper works. It can be issued in office of Tourism Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) in both Kathmandu and Pokhara. For obtaining FIT permits you need to pay equivalent amount of US $ 20. Another thing is Nepal Tourism Board doesn’t allow Nepali Tourism Worker to trek with Green TIMS holder in legal way.

Organized Trekkers (Group Trekkers Under Agency)
Blue colored TIMS card will be provide for organized trekker through trekking agencies without any hassle. As trekker companies will collect trekker’s data and can issue a TIMS card from their own office with company stamp. For obtaining organized permits you need to pay equivalent amount of US $ 10 or US $ 10.

Expedition Members permitted to climb the mountains
Visitors in controlled area with permits by the department of immigrations
Foreign guest invited by the government of Nepal
Authorities from the various diplomatic missions present in the country
Visitors on certain missions recommend by governmental departments
Foreign citizens possessing a residential visa

National Park Entry Permits for Trekking in Nepal
In order to trek only TIMS card are not enough, depending on the area of trekking which national park or, conservation area or wildlife reserve you are you need to pay the allocated amount before entering the park otherwise generally double charge will be levied in permit check post on trails.
