There is always one thing I have always loved doing, and that's camping! There's something about the thrill of hiking and searching for the perfect camping spot to make my temporary home.
From the beautiful views down to the excellent experiences with my loved ones, camping is the best way to get in touch with nature while learning vital skills you'll need in the long run. But if you're a beginner, I'm sure it's a bit daunting at first! That's why I'm going to share some camping tips for beginners that I learned along the way.
Camping Tips For Beginners
I've experienced a lot of funny camping mistakes, especially during my first time camping! But as time wore on, I started improving on my survival skills and learning more along the way. So I'm going to share some of my firsthand camping experiences and what you should do for a memorable and safe trip camping, especially if it's your first time!
1. Plan Beforehand and Pack Well
My first mistake during my first camping trip was not packing enough clothes, so I ended up having to reuse my sweaty ones. And during my second camping trip, my mistake was that I bought TOO many unused clothes, so it ended up weighing me down!
My pro-tip here is to make sure that you make a list of what you'll be bringing beforehand and make sure that what you pack is useful and you find use in it during the trip. I recommend you to purchase multi purpose tools such as Swiss Army Knives, so you won't have to bring multiple gears that will weigh your pack down.
All you need are the basic camping necessities, which include your extra clothes, survival tools and a first aid kit, your tent and sleeping bag, and any other personal necessities, such as medication and toiletries.
2. Choosing Your Campsite
This is another important thing because a wet camping ground will be VERY uncomfortable when sleeping. I learned that the hard way!
Before anything else, choose an appropriate date that is sunny but at an optimum temperature where you can stay outside. Then pick a campsite that has all the facilities you need. You might want to consider those that have their bathrooms and electrical outlets.
Once you have chosen the campsite, choose where to set up the tent, which should be in an area where it is dry and even ground. Make sure to remove any debris or sharp sticks before setting up your tent to avoid it from getting ruined!
3. Always Be Prepared For the Worst
Like what I mentioned, bring your survival and first aid kit because you never know what's going to happen when you're with mother nature. In case you or your loved ones suffer from an injury, you will be able to treat them immediately.
A survival kit is also vital in case you get lost or end up camping in extreme weather conditions. Remember to add in a compass and flares to know and signal your way back to the campsite.
4. Bring the RIGHT Food
My mistake here was that I brought in food that needed a lot of preparation and cooking. While I would want a nice hot meal, you don't get much class when out in the rough. I recommend you to bring food that is high in protein and carbs for energy, and that is easy to eat.
Go for candies, nuts, peanut butter sandwiches, or even instant food such as porridge or canned goods. I recommend canned goods, as they're easy to open and can be consumed immediately.
5. Don't Sweat the Small Stuff
Most importantly, just go with the flow. If you made a whole itinerary, realize that it may not go as planned sometimes and you just need to keep a smile on your face and enjoy your memories with loved ones. Who wants to be seen scowling the whole time just because one thing didn't go as planned?
In ConclusionMy first time camping wasn't smooth sailing. But from all my camping blunders, I learned many crucial lessons that didn't only help me in outdoors and traveling, but back at home as well. From camping under the storm down to forgetting to pack instant food, I experienced everything but still managed to find a way to have fun. And that's all there is to camp no matter if you're a beginner or expert!
So don't be scared about your first camping trips. With these camping tips for beginners, you'll surely have the memorable experiences that will have you want to go out more!
